CICADAS
Cicadas is an exploration of memory, loss and reconstruction of it, through personal archive material. It is an effort to take control of a fragmented past and create a new relationship with and out of it. By revisiting family albums and rewriting their narratives, photography becomes part of a healing process. Meanwhile, details that could otherwise go unnoticed become starting points of conversations and emotional responses.
During the selection and extraction of these frames the questions raised include the relation of memory to reality, and the representations and symbols in family albums. The result of this process is a mosaic of fragments of family archive photographs and childhood objects, each one of which now carries an individual, new story.
